Obituary of Gertrude A. Popov

Gertrude A. Popov, 91, of Howlett Hill, passed away September 5, 2016. Gert was born in Bremen, Germany. She met her husband, the late Ziva, who was a US soldier in WWII and they married in 1948. Gert was a life long communicant of The Church of St Michael & St. Peter, Syracuse, where she served and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society for many years. She owned and operated "Gert's Knit Shop" in Marcellus and was a long time employee of the Rochester Shoe Store. Gert is survived by four children Barbara Sliva (Richard), Richard Popov (Patricia), Vera Kuss (Walter) and Ziva Popov (Susan), and by seven grandchildren Kristen Popov, Matt Popov, Kelly Kuss Cook (Andrew), Lauren Kuss, Chelsea Kuss, Alexander Popov and Brian Popov. Calling hours will be from 4 to 6:30pm Thursday, September 8 at Ryan Funeral Home, 44 E. Main Street, Marcellus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the next morning 10am Friday in The Church of St. Michael & St. Peter. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Church of St. Michael & St. Peter, 4782 W.
