About Us
Established in 1955, Ryan Funeral Home has served the Marcellus and surrounding area, caring for families at their time of need as a trusted neighbor.
Founder Joseph V. Ryan (1922-1999) began his business, along with his wife Margaret “Peg” Ryan (1926-2009) at the current location here on Main Street. Growing up farming, Joe was a native of Navarino, graduated from Onondaga Central School and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He then went on to school and graduated from Simmons School of Embalming. Joe served his apprenticeship in the New York City area where he became a NYS Licensed Funeral Director in 1950.
Over the years this knowledge was being passed on to the current owner and manager, Mary Ryan Carlton, Joe and Peg’s daughter, who has been a NYS Licensed Funeral Director for over 30 years. Mary graduated from Marcellus Central School, Onondaga Community College and Simmons School of Mortuary Science. She served her apprenticeship in the Syracuse and Rochester area.
