Obituary of Alfred N. Ianuzi, Jr.

Alfred Nichols "Nick" Ianuzi, Jr. passed away on Monday, March 07, 2016 after a long battle with dementia. He led a successful surveying business from 1969, retiring in April 2006. Every Town, Village and City of Syracuse within Onondaga County and Central New York holds surveys and maps within their respective municipal archives prepared, approved and filed by A. N. Ianuzi, Jr., L.S. Mr. Ianuzi was an active member of the Central New York Builders Association, Inc., Central New York and New York State Professional Land Surveyors, Inc., a recognized business leader by the Chamber of Commerce of the United States of America since 1980, and a Fellow of the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping since 1975. During the huge building boom of the early 60's, stretching onward into the 80's, 90's and beyond, A. N. Ianuzi, Jr. Land Surveyors was actively involved with the planning and mapping of housing communities, commercial developments as well as plot layouts, topographic, aerial and individual surveys, coordinating many of those projects with many well-known Central New York builders, civil engineers, architects, developers, as well as individuals purchasing or selling real estate. He served in Court many times as an expert witness in land disputes. Nick's personal attention to detail and accuracy regarding land uses, measurement of land surfaces and mapping were all primary concerns in guiding his land surveying business successfully. Nick was born on December 2, 1931 in Syracuse NY. He graduated from Eastwood High School in 1950 and went on to Syracuse University before serving in the United States Army with the U. S. Corps of Engineers from 1953 to 1956. Nick was a very active member for many years in the Onondaga County Hiawatha Council of Boy Scouts, also serving in administrative and surveying capacities. A former member of the Reformed Church of Syracuse before moving to Otisco Lake where he joined the Amber Congregational Church. An active golfer, he was a member of Tuscarora Golf Club and also Sunset Ridge in Marcellus. Nick was a good neighbor and loyal friend to all who knew him. Nick was predeceased by his parents, Alfred N. Ianuzi and Dorris H. Ianuzi; surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Carole M. Ianuzi, his three devoted daughters, Susan Ianuzi of Marietta, New York,, Diane Thomas of Islamorada, Florida and Kristi (Joachim) Ohlin of New York City, New York; three caring granddaughters, Jessica Ianuzi, Nichole Thomas, and Samantha Ohlin; brothers David Ianuzi (Debbie); Donn Ianuzi (Patti); James Ianuzi (Lynda) and sister, Karen Ianuzi Hersam (Richard); many nieces, nephews and loving cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Amber Congregational Church. Friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home, 44 East Main Street, Marcellus, New York 13108 on Friday, March 11 between 4 and 7 pm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12 at 1:00 pm in Amber Congregational Church on Otisco Valley Road in Amber, NY.
