Obituary of Margaret F. Brenneman

Margaret "Granny Bee" Brenneman, of Borodino, died March 3, 2016 at 100 years old. One of 10 children born to the late John and Elizabeth Flanagan in the small hamlet of Joshua, NY. At the age of 12 she went to board in Tully in order to get a high school education. She was the last surviving member of Tully High School Class of 1931. After graduation from Cortland Normal School, she taught for many years in one room schools around the county. In the 1950's she worked 15 years for Allen Doig at the South Street Red & White. Upon retirement from retail work she went to work selling produce to the public. Many people knew of Brenneman's Mini Market with its shelves full of strawberries and potatoes. She worked, pulling weeds in her garden into her 98th year. She was predeceased by her husband Harry in 1985; a grandson Peter Sgouris in 2013 and also by her sisters Lucille Flanagan, Ella Bass and Mary Stopyro, and brothers William, Lawrence, Jerry, Gene and Donald Flanagan. Surviving are two daughters Sally (Nick) Sgouris of Skaneateles and Judy (Don) Roche of Marcellus; two sons Wesley (Janet) Brenneman and Jim (Doreen) Brenneman of Skaneateles; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; her sister Nan Olney of Georgia and many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Saturday, March 12 in St. Francis Xavier Church, Marcellus. Burial will be in the spring at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Otisco. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Borodino Fire Department.
