Obituary of Henry W. Flitcroft

Henry W. "Bud" Flitcroft, 92, of Marcellus, passed away on October 10, 2015 at Elderwood of Liverpool. Bud was born January 22, 1923 in Brasher, NY, son of Grover & Margaret (LaClair) Flitcroft. Family was always his focus in life as he was one of the oldest brothers of 13 children. Bud served in World War II from December 1942 till December 1945 in the Army as a Staff Sergeant in the 28th Photo Recon – Pacific Theater as the Crew Chief on B17's, and was married September 11, 1948, to his best friend and the love of his life, Peggy (Dark). Most of Bud's career was in the fuel oil business, beginning with Poole Oil Company of Onondaga Hill and retiring from Mohawk Valley Oil in Syracuse/Marcy, NY. He was a member, Deacon & Elder of Marcellus First Presbyterian Church, and member of the American Legion Ralph Share Post #297, and Morning Star Lodge 524 all of Marcellus. His hobbies included remodeling his home, building the family camp, keeping his cars and trucks "in tip-top shape", dancing, playing cards and bowling. Bud was always helping friends & family with their home & car repairs, and customers with their furnaces. He was a friend to everyone he knew. Bud enjoyed much time with family and friends with over 45 summers at Stony Point, Henderson Harbor and many winters after retirement at Ocean Breeze Park in Jensen Beach, Florida. Along with his wife of 67 years, Peggy, Bud is survived by daughters Cathy Roberts of North Syracuse and Linda (Mike) Ball of Phoenix, NY; a son Scott (Laura ) Flitcroft of Prescott, AZ; grandchildren Heidi Jones, Sarah Roberts, Christopher (Nubia) Ball, Julie (Matthew) Callard, Melissa (Aaron) Shupp, Heath (Renee) Flitcroft and Hallie (Angel) Morales, as well as 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins; sisters Esther Badgley and Marjie Fletcher (Floyd Shepard); brothers James (Joyce) and Gerald (Reta) Flitcroft; sister-in-laws Laurien and Delores Flitcroft; and brother-in-law Stuart MacDuffie. Bud was predeceased by his parents; step-father Dewey Woodall, brothers Lionel, Grover Jr. (Mary), Paul (Gartha), and Mickey; his sisters Mary Catherine (Russell) Thompson, Josephine (Maurice) Woodall, Barbara MacDuffie and Rita Flitcroft; and brother-in-laws Lester Badgley and Chuck Fletcher. The family wants to send a special thank you to the nurses, aides and staff at Elderwood for their compassion and loving care shown to Bud throughout his stay on the 2nd and 3rd floors. A Memorial Service will be 3:00pm Saturday, October 17 in Marcellus First Presbyterian Church, 1 East Main Street, Marcellus. The family will greet friends after the service. Burial will be private.
