Obituary of Frederick Emery Haag III

Frederick Emery Haag III, 93, passed away May 14, 2024. A native of Niagara Falls, NY, Fred primarily lived in central NY. Fred attended Fredonia State University where he completed studies in music, music education, and theology. Fred completed his Master's work in vocal performance, four languages, at Syracuse University.

Fred was a child and adult performer, accomplished musician, dancer, director, artist, choral and church choir director, writer, editor, curriculum developer, teacher of indigenous groups, Learning Consultant with NYSUT and Performance Learning Systems in PA and taught all levels of education, elementary through graduate level. Fred was a veteran of the Korean war. Fred enjoyed traveling the world, working with his many dear colleagues and students, studying leading edge thought and spending time with his many cherished friends. Fred was teaching graduate coursework at age 90 and actively involved in many projects until Covid interrupted his life.

Surviving are his children Elizabeth, Eric (April) and Peter (Beth); sister-in-law Mary; two grandchildren; his great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. Fred received numerous accolades and awards during seven decades of teaching, directing, performing and many other contributions. He will be remembered with great love and affection by the many lives he touched. Fred did not want a gathering to honor his life. He felt very honored during his life. He asked that contributions, in his honor, be made to local schools to foster the arts and education.
