Douglas Neu

Obituary of Douglas C. Neu

Douglas Charles Neu (Sr.), 92, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024, under the loving care of his family, at his home, Lords Corners, Onondaga, where he raised six children. Doug was born in the Hamlet of Otisco to Frank L. and Helen Sanderson Neu. He graduated from Onondaga Central High School and served in the US Army in Korea, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Doug worked hard to support his family and was a respected supervisor for the NYS Department of Transportation for 35 years. He greatly enjoyed train travel, taking several cross-country journeys including a special trip with Pat and a fun group of friends to Alaska via the Canadian Rockies and Prince Rupert BC, after which he poetically said, "I would just like to say, we would have more happy people if they took a trip this way."

Doug was a farmer at heart and a friend to animals, especially his several English Sheep Dogs. He was known for his cooking skill; his clam chowder was legendary. He took joy in having his family gather at his home or the Amber Inn into his golden years.

Doug was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, the former Patricia Harris; his parents; uncles Austin and Charlie; aunt Leora (Raymond) Purcell; sisters Betty Ahlstrand and Nancy Ireland; brother Gene (Joan) and granddaughter Jessica Lynn Neu.

Surviving are his children Dale (Pat), Dean (Gigi), Lynn (Rich) Benedetto, Cindy (Jerry Neely), Doug (Heather) and Stacey (Bobby) Alfieri; grandchildren Joshua, Kelley, James, Abby, Brittnie, Alison and Lily; several step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sister Judy (Leon) Hekiert; brother-in-law Gordon Ireland; several nieces and nephews.
