Obituary of Richard O. Fischer
Richard Otto Fischer, 96, of Marietta, New York on February 6, 2024 entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Richard was born April 9, 1927 in Syracuse, New York to Otto and Gertrude (Wild) Fischer. He lived nearly his entire life in Onondaga County. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Following the service, Richard married the love of his life, Betty J. Maitland. He attended Syracuse University but completed his Degree from Canton. He retired after thirty-seven years of service to the State of New York in Agriculture and Markets, and during some of those years taught Dairy Science at Cornell University.
Richard was a faithful responsible son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved to fish, hunt and garden, and mastered all of them. His life was directed by God's Word. Richard faithfully walked with His Lord and it was his greatest desire that all of his children and grandchildren would as well. It was his passion to pray for and seek to bless the future generations. "For Richard to live was Christ and to die gain."
Richard was preceded in death by Betty his wife, his parents and his brother Ronald. He is survived by his two sisters, Lillian Simmons and Paula Richards; children Karen (Neil) Bailer, Debbie (Fred) Hudson, Robin (Brad) Harbaugh, Melanie Epp and Richard J. (Michelle) Fischer; 15 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
A calling hour will be Monday, February 12, 2024 from 9:30 to 10:30am and a Funeral Service will follow at 11am, both held in the Rose Hill Baptist Church, Rose Hill, NY. Entombment will be private.
