Obituary of Dorothy F. Vasick

Dorothy F. Vasick, 81, of Marcellus, NY and formerly of Binghamton, NY died Sunday, January 21, 2024 after a very short illness.

Dorothy was predeceased by her sister Eleanor; parents Howard and Helen Hancock; grandson Andrew and son-in-law Dan Shoen. She is survived by her beloved children Michael (Rebekah) and Michele Shoen; her grandchildren Trinity, Nathan, Joe, Daniel (Leigha) and Zachary.

Dorothy was an example of courage, resilience and tenacity. After suffering an aneurysm and stroke at age 38, she went on to get her degree and worked as a social worker in Broome County for 20 years.

Also surviving is her devoted partner and best friend of 38 years, Pat Foster. She saw in Dorothy, a woman of quiet dignity and grace whose goodness and heart were always on display. Pat was honored to be her spouse and share her remarkable journey.

Dorothy is survived also by Pat's family who she loved and admired, including Margaret and Thomas Fraher, Elizabeth Casselman, Megan, David and Gavin Collins; Michael and Lynda Foster and their children Julia (Chris), Michael, and Emma (Steve), Isabelle and Annie; Mary Beth and Wendell Moulton and their children Eric (Amanda) and Ellen (Joe), Teddy, Max and Gunnar; and Matthew Foster.

Pat would like to thank Auburn Memorial Hospital's critical care nurses for their compassionate and outstanding care in Dorothy's final days, Dr. Sah who kindly guided her final days of treatment and Dr. Pfau who Dorothy admired so much. Thank you.

Calling hours will be from 3 to 5pm Friday, January 26, 2024 and a Memorial Service will follow, both held at Ryan Funeral Home, 44 E. Main Street, Marcellus.
