Obituary of James V. Thornton

James "Jim" Thornton, 87, of Fairmount, passed away peacefully among family on Wednesday, April 20th, 2022. Born in Syracuse to the late Dr. Joseph M. and Marian (Murphy) Thornton, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ellen Thornton; brother, Robert Thornton and brother, William Thornton. Jim graduated from Most Holy Rosary in Syracuse and Niagara University. He served in the US Army's 1542 infantry as 2nd Lieutenant.

Jim started his career at Mutual of Omaha as an actuary and then moved to the City of Syracuse to the data processing department. He spent most of his career as a self-employed computer consultant, working for a wide variety of Syracuse businesses. Jim was loved and very well respected by all his clients. He enjoyed spending the summers with his family on Otisco Lake and was an avid SU Sports fan. Jim was a communicant of St. Patrick's and Holy Family churches.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Barbara (Skinner) Thornton; brother Dr. Joseph T. (Joan) Thornton; children, Tim (Mary) Thornton, Mary (Ed) Kern, Kathleen Thornton, Maureen (David) Stathis, James "Bam" Thornton, William (Marie) Thornton and Robert (Joanne) Thornton; 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am Monday, April 25th in St. Francis Xavier Church, One West Main St., Marcellus. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private.
