Obituary of Janet Mae Ruggles

Janet Mae Ruggles of Marcellus, NY died in the presence of her loved ones on December 20, 2019. Jan was born in Canton, Ohio, the daughter of Walter and Beatrice Johnson. She was a life member of the Reading Church of Brethren. During High School, she met the love of her life, Bruce Ruggles. In 1973, they moved to Marcellus, NY where they raised their three children and built a remarkable homestead and a beautiful life together. Jan was an avid Gardener, Baker, Seamstress, Bridge Player and Fan of her family's various activities. She loved her horses, Knight Hawk and Tilly, her country, her community, and her neighbors, and gave back in so many ways. Jan's greatest passion was her sweetheart and best friend, Bruce Ruggles, and they enjoyed extensive travel throughout North America. Jan's life priority was her family. She was a loving teacher emphasizing togetherness and traditions, a gift which she passed down to three generations. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bruce A. Ruggles of Marcellus, her children Greg (Mary Ellen) Ruggles, of Skaneateles, NY, Grant (Ann) Ruggles of Marietta, NY and Melissa (Todd) Ritter of Marcellus, grandchildren Neil Ruggles (Nikisha Parker), Zachary Ruggles, Haley Ruggles, Elijah Ritter and Jacob Ritter, and one great-granddaughter, Indigo Mae Ruggles. Sisters Norma (Terry) Blickensderfer, Marilyn McConnell, Debbie (Howard) Krug, and brother, Lee Johnson. Also, sisters-in-law Beverly (Alan) Lockhart, Barbara (Albert) Anderson, and Brenda (Ron) Reynolds and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be at Ryan Funeral Home in Marcellus, NY, Saturday, January 4 from 2:00-4:00 pm with a private memorial service immediately following.
