John David Longuil, 82, of Marcellus, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026. Born in Nyack, NY, to Angeline (Lodico) and David Longuil, he was predeceased by his sister Genevieve and brothers Michael and Robert.

John "Coach" was a four-sport athlete and met his beloved wife, Carolynn Jakes, while receiving his undergraduate degree at SUNY Cortland. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 9th. He went on to earn his CAS from Syracuse University and his PhD in Athletic & Educational Administration.

His career spanned over 40 years; teaching math, physical education and coaching football, lacrosse, wrestling and track. Among his proudest accomplishments were starting the lacrosse program at Marcellus High School, serving as President of the Marcellus Jaycees when they installed the 1st night field lights in the area, and establishing the Walker Student Exchange Program with Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. He has been nominated for the 2026 Marcellus Athletic Hall of Fame for the positive impact he has had on the lives of so many student athletes.

He was a long-time member of the Syracuse Wrestling Officials Association and an elder of the Marcellus First Presbyterian Church.

Skiing, golf, traveling and sharing stories with family and friends were his lifelong passions. John's love of life and his infectious smile were legendary.

He is survived by his wife, Carolynn; his daughters Robyn Bentley (Phil Graham), Jennifer (John) Marziale, and son John II (Dawn). Also are his 7 grandchildren: Samantha Bentley (Madyson Moore), Olivia, Joseph (Alayna), and Jack Marziale; Sarah, Jacob, and Katherine Longuil, and great-grandson Luke Marziale.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
