Obituary of Nellie L. Peatfield

Nellie L. (Whynott) Peatfield, 86, of Marcellus, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday November 29, 2025.

She is survived by her son, Jonathan R. Peatfield; two grandchildren, Jonathan A. and Taylor N.; her daughter-in-law, Susan (David Jr.); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Nellie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, David F. Peatfield (2021); her son, David F. Peatfield, Jr. (2017); and her brother, David W. Whynott (1991).

Nellie was born in Somerville, Massachusetts. Before moving to Marcellus, Nellie and her husband David lived together on their dairy farm in Sempronius. Afterward, they owned and operated The Peatfield Company, Ltd., a real estate appraisal company, where Nellie worked alongside her husband until they both retired.

Nellie and David enjoyed travelling internationally and spending time with friends and family. They found great joy in community engagement – volunteering and supporting causes that were important to them. Nellie was an active member of the Martisco Lions Club, Ugly Quilts, and Home Bureau at the Marcellus Grange #464.

Nellie had a special affection for certain short-legged animals. She loved taking care of her Dachshunds and collecting artwork, ornaments, and souvenirs blazoned with pot-bellied pigs.

Nellie was blessed with exceptional intelligence and creativity, which she displayed through her sharp wit and her passion for crafting. She was particularly skilled in knitting, sewing, embroidery, quilting, and making people smile. She will be missed dearly.

Nellie will be laid to rest at the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Marcellus, in the company of loved ones, including her husband David, and her son David, Jr.
