Obituary of Raymond L. Farrington
Professional artist and retired art teacher Raymond L. Farrington of Syracuse, NY, passed away on September 19, 2025, at the age of 78, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Raymond was drafted into the US Army and served in a combat aviation unit in Vietnam, where he piloted Huey Helicopters on medevac missions. After his service, he obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Syracuse University and then worked for the Syracuse Newspapers as a staff artist for the Herald-Journal for 15 years. He then sought his M.S. in Art Education and thus began his teaching career. Raymond shared his passion for drawing and painting with thousands of students over a decade. He loved reading, cooking, gardening, and bird watching as a citizen scientist for Cornell. Raymond had a deep interest in general history, particularly the Civil War, and the sciences. His sister Sheila had predeceased him.
Raymond is survived by his beloved family including his wife of 43 years, Patricia, his daughter Jennifer (Jeff), his two sons Nathaniel and Sean, his two brothers Bruce (Edith) and Ron (Sue), and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private service was held for family and close friends. Raymond's kind and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friends of Marcellus Park, P.O. Box 301, Marcellus, NY 13108.
