Obituary of Mary R. Arnett

Mary Riddel Arnett, 79, of Marcellus, NY passed away at home peacefully in her sleep the morning of September 15, 2025. May was a loving Wife, Mother, Granny and Aunt. Born in West Calder, Scotland to the now late Mary and James Todd, she was raised there along with her siblings Helen and Robert.

May was married in West Calder to Dave Arnett on August 27, 1966 and they lived happily for 59 years. Her first home was in Addison, NY and then moved to Marcellus in 1975. May became an American Citizen on June 5, 1972. For decades she was very involved with the Marcellus First Presbyterian Church and served on several committees. May was an avid quilter and was a member of the Thumbstall Quilt Guild, English Paper Piecing Club and Modern Quilt Club which she helped to start. This was her love and her hobby.

May worked for 25 years at Church World Service, a nonprofit organization, as a Program Assistant. She retired June 30, 1999 and went to work part time at Patchwork Plus Quilt Shop. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Todd.

Surviving are her husband, David Arnett; daughters Nicki Arnett-Burke (Mike) and Danielle (Arnett) McCallum (Finlay); her dearest grandchildren, Duncan McCallum, Colin Arnett, Dana McCallum and Jillian McCallum, as well as her sister Helen Griffin; nephew Chris RoDee and her nieces Helen Griffin, Lynn Brown and Jill Heeps. May also has several great nieces and nephews and step-great-grandchildren.

She so enjoyed life surrounded by the people she loved. She was truly loved and respected by everyone that knew her and will be missed terribly.

A calling hour will be held in the Marcellus First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Main St. and North St. in Marcellus, NY, on Saturday, September 27th from 10 to11am with a service to follow at 11am. All are then invited to join the family and friends in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in May's name to the Marcellus First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 147, Marcellus, NY 13108.
