Sig and Shirley touched my life with fond memories.RIP Mr Sawtell
My sincere thoughts and prayers to Debbie, Jennifer, William, Caleb and the Sawtell family. Your dad and grandfather lived a long and fruitful life. He seemed to have accomplished many things including flying and building his beautiful camp in my favorite paradise Long Lake, NY. May he rest in peace.
"That man is a success
who has lived well,
laughed often and loved much;
who has gained the respect of intelligent men and women
and the love of children;
who has filled his niche and accomplished his task;
who leaves the world better than he found it,
who has never lacked appreciation of Earth’s beauty
or failed to express it;
who looked for the best in others,
and gave the best he had."
*Robert Louis Stevenson*
Written by Debbie: My Dad was born on March 27, 1925 and died on January 27, 2021 at home, holding Mom's hand and surrounded by his family. Dad grew up in Marcellus and attended Marcellus school. He served in the Navy in WWII. He had two brothers, John and Jim and a sister Isabel. Dad worked at Niagra Mohawk. In the late 1950's he purchased land in Long Lake where he built a summer camp.When we were kids,Mom would drive us to camp and Dad would commute by seaplane which he kept on Otisco Lake. We spent our time boating, swimming, hiking,waterskiing,etc. After Dad retired he took photography classes at OCC. One of his assignments was a self portrait which you see here. He often said of retirement,"I don't know how I found time to work". Mom and Dad eventually moved to Skaneateles where Dad joined the Borodino Fire Department. For their 50th anniversary they went on an Alaskan cruise.They also bought a camper and toured the country. Besides his children, Dad left behind his grandchildren, Jennifer,Gillian,Caitlin,Shayna, Tanner,Delana,William,Spencer and Hunter.And his great grandchildren William,Caleb and Madison.We are lucky people to have had our strong, kind father, who gave us such a great life. Every time I left his house he said" I love you".Bye, Dad,I love you too.
Kate and the Sawtell Family: I’m so sorry to read of your father’s passing. What a long, full life he lived. Sending my sincerest condolences to you, your family and all who knew and loved him. I’ll always remember him for letting me rent his beautiful camp on Long Lake. It was so beautiful and peaceful there. Rest in Peace, Mr. Sawtell.
My condolences to the Sawtell family. So sorry for your loss.
