Obituary of William W. Bell

William W. Bell Jr., (Bill), of Marcellus, son of William W. & Harriet Holran Bell, Tenafly, NJ, born December 13, 1926, Englewood, NJ, died April 3, 2015, Marcellus, NY, from congestive heart failure & idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He graduated from Tenafly High School in 1944, served in US Navy aboard USS Semmes AG24, and USS Sagamore ATO20, in 1945 & 1946. The best thing in his life occurred in 1947 when he met and fell in love with Peg the day after she graduated from Nappanee, IN High School and they married a year later. They attended Bucknell University together; Bill earned a cum laude BS in ME and Peg a PHT (Pushed Husband Through) from Bucknell's President. Bill was elected membership in Phi Eta Sigma, Pi Mu Epsilon, and Tau Beta Pi honorary societies and won the G.P. Morris Mathematics Prize. After an interesting short stint in a Long Island food plant Bill joined Carrier Corp. as a development engineer participating in the design of flake ice machines, home freezers and refrigerators, room air conditioners and a prototype air cooled absorption machine. Twenty related US patents and nine foreign patents were granted him, some individual and some jointly with other engineers. His most rewarding Carrier assignment was overseeing Commercial Engineering's new laboratory design, Building TR21. He worked a total of 32 1/4 years and was retired for a longer period of time than worked; a very satisfying accomplishment! Bill enjoyed hobbies including collecting and refinishing antiques, rebuilding three homes, traveling, collecting antique cars, family genealogy, and especially Simplex Automobile "genealogy". Bill was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Harriet D. Bello, Rothe & Jean M. Farr. Surviving are his wife of 66 years Peg; daughters, Harriet (Donald) Stalker, Margaret (Richard) Cook, Suzanne (Robert) Curdt, E. Louise (Mark) Choroser & Anne (Donald) Myers; sons, William L. (Denise) & John H. (Cynthia); granddaughters, Rebecca (Peter) Hakes, Tracy Stalker, Tamara (Daniel) Woodruff, Marie (William) Lakie, Bonnie Curdt, Anne Bell, Margaret Choroser, Eliza Bell, Claudia Choroser; grandsons, William E.
