Obituary of Helen Joyce Curtis

Helen "Joyce" Curtis, 89, of Webster and formerly of Marcellus, went to be with the Lord surrounded by her loving family at Highland Hospital in Rochester. Joyce was born in South Onondaga and was a 1944 graduate of Onondaga Central School. She lived 40 years in Marietta before moving to Marcellus in 1988, and then to Webster in 2006. Joyce worked 17 years as a sales clerk for JCPenney in Camillus, retiring in 1993. She had been a member of the Amber Congregational Church since 1952. Joyce's greatest pleasures and treasures were her family. She was blessed to be a big part of her great-grandchildren's lives, as well. Joyce was predeceased by her husband William J. Curtis in 2002 and grandson Derek Baker in 2002. Surviving are her children Bonnie (Jeff) Slack and Michael (Cheryl) Curtis; grandchildren Jennifer Slack (Jeff Griggs), Grady (Shannon) Slack, Kara Curtis and Mark Baker; great-grandchildren Macy, Michael Mancuso and Jack, Molly, Maddie Slack; her sister Louise Sloan and brother Sonny White. The family would like to thank the staff at Highland Hospital, 7 East and the VNS staff for their kind and compassionate care. A Memorial Service will be held in Amber Congregational Church, 2366 Otisco Valley Road, Marietta, NY 13110 at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 8 with a private burial to follow. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Amber Congregational Church.
